After a long, cold winter, we’re all excited about the first signs of spring. However, we must remember that our cooling system has been shut off during these past winter months and when we begin to turn our system back on, we may experience some issues. Preventative maintenance is extremely important this time of year because most spring HVAC problems can be found with a routine check-up before they happen. If you are experiencing a non-responsive system or feel as if you are receiving inadequate or inconsistent cooling, it could be a result of some of these common spring-time problems.
1. Dirty coils
Inside of your home’s interior system are evaporator coils while condenser coils are in the unit outside of your home. Over time, these coils get dirty. When this occurs, your unit’s efficiency decreases and harm can come to parts of your air conditioner.
2. Refrigerant leak
Your refrigerant should remain sealed at all times. Give us a call immediately if you see signs of a leak. Air conditioning efficiency will decrease as your bills increase with a refrigerant leak!
3. Clogged drain line
If you hear the sound or see the sight of dripping water, this could be the sign of a clogged drain line. This is a common occurrence due to build-up over time. Don’t worry, we will clear your drain lines during a Spring HVAC tune-up!
4. Tripped circuit
When turning on your air conditioner for the first time, the circuit may trip. Head to your breaker box and try resetting the circuit first, if that still doesn’t work, give us a call! This could be the result of a larger, more serious issue.
5. Dirty filter
If your filter is disposable, it should be changed monthly. Dirty filters reduce indoor air quality, make your home less comfortable, and can result in frozen indoor coils, eventually leading to serious repairs.
6. Duct leaks
One of the leading causes of inefficient cooling of the home is a leak in your ducts. These can also be the hardest to identify. Over time, ducts become dirty along with the possibilities of separating and leaking. It is important to have your ducts maintained frequently.
7. Malfunctioning thermostat
Out of date and cheap thermostats commonly malfunction, while quality, digital thermostats rarely fail. We are happy to come and take a look to see what the underlying issue may be.
